COUNCILLORS will seek three quotes before pursuing maintenance work to the lift in Henley town hall.
A meeting of the council’s town and community committee heard that the lift was in working order but was 50-years-old with the last refurbishment to improve reliability and its operation taking place nearly 20 years ago.
The group had been due to vote on a recommendation that PIP Lift Services be engaged to carry out the first two stages of work at a cost of £24,715 plus VAT.
This would include the replacement of the CPU, effectively the “brain” of the lift.
But Councillor Will Hamilton, although saying he was not against going ahead with the work, asked if three quotes had been sought adding: “This is an awful lot of money.”
