£250,000 skate park approved

PLANS to build a skate park in Henley were approved on Wednesday night.

Members of South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee backed the £250,000 project with 10 votes in favour and one abstention.

A number of conditions have been imposed which include agreeing a tree protection scheme and having no external lighting.

Town councillor Stefan Gawrysiak and Colin Brathwaite, who chairs the Henley Skate Park Initiative, spoke in favour of the application.

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Gawrysiak said: “I am absolutely ecstatic that this has gone through and really pleased with the vote that all the district councillors saw the sense of it for Henley. Now we just need to find the money for it.”

Two weeks ago, the Henley Standard reported claims by the initiative and town councillors that the project had been delayed by “bad advice” from district council officers.

These were denied by the district council.
