Residents have to wait for formal naming of Howe Hill

RESIDENTS of Howe Hill, near Watlington, say they are “frustrated” at delays in awarding the area its own identity.

Peter Richardson and his neighbours asked for their stretch of the B480 to be designated as “Howe Hill” and for signs to be erected.

He feared the area could miss out on infrastructure improvements as it is more than two miles from Watlington and is not officially recognised like places such as Park Corner and Greenfield.

He won the support of his 20-plus neighbours and Watlington Parish Council but now Oxfordshire County Council, the highways authority, says it can’t afford the signs.

Mr Richardson said: “Howe Hill has achieved settlement status after a long campaign but frustration for residents continues as it appears that Oxfordshire County Council does not have the budget for the two signs that are needed.”
