Council opposes new home and office

PLANS for a home and office in Sonning Common have been opposed by parish councillors.

The application for the building on the corner of Wood Lane and Green Lane was recommended for refusal by Sonning Common Parish Council’s planning committee.

Members objected on the grounds that the village already has empty office units and would lose much-needed space.

They also raised concerns that a feature telephone box filled with plants, which was installed by the Village Gardeners last year, would have to be removed to make way for the development.

Chrissie Phillips-Tilbury, a parish councillor who runs the gardening group, said: “We installed the telephone flower box feature, with planning permission from South Oxfordshire District Council, only last year and it has become a focal point of the village.
