Mobility group wins fight for lifts at station

PASSENGER lifts are to be installed at Goring station in a victory for a disabled people’s campaign group.

Network Rail is to fund the £1.2 million project from its budget for electrifying the railway line through the village.

Work will begin to replace the station’s footbridge in November as it must be raised to make room for overhead power cables.

Network Rail will also install three passenger lifts, one on each platform, in a similar arrangement to that at Twyford station.

It originally agreed to leave space for the lifts to be added later but said it couldn’t afford to install them.
