Housing plan vote brought forward

A REFERENDUM on Watlington’s neighbourhood plan will be held in May, a year earlier than planned.

Parish councillor Nick Hancock, a member of the neighbourhood plan core committee, said the target was “ambitious” but necessary.

Speaking at a parish council meeting on Tuesday, he said: “If we don’t do it within that timescale I believe we’ll be overtaken by events.”

Councillor Hancock said there might also be difficulty in sustaining interest in the community.

Councillor Rhian Woods said: “The faster we get this in place the faster we’re able to defend ourselves against applications on sites where, as a community, we would rather not see development.”
