THE quality of markets held in Henley is set to improve. The town council has set up a working group following criticism by some members that the weekend markets do not use local suppliers. Councillor Elizabeth Hodgkin, a member of the group, said the idea was to improve the markets. “It is a great opportunity to get better value for the town,” she said.
The other members are councillors Pam Phillips, Joan Bland and Will Hamilton as well as a representative from the Henley Business Partnership. Cllr Bland, who runs Asquiths teddy bear shop and has been a critic of the markets, said she would take an impartial and constructive view. “I have a great deal of experience,” she said. “I can make sure that they look nice and stock very good products that are fit for consumption and to European standards.”
