Council protests at threat of more housing

PLANS to increase South Oxfordshire’s housing targets are being opposed by Goring Parish Council.

The authority is to write to the district council criticising proposals to raise the figure by 3,900 to 5,900 a year.

Under the existing local plan the district must take 10,600 homes by 2027. However, a Government-backed report has said the target should be between 14,500 and 16,500 by 2031.

The district council is now consulting on a new local plan and has proposed eight options for distributing the homes, two of which would increase the target of 105 houses for Goring.

The parish council favours concentrating all new development in the so-called “science vale” near Didcot.
