Woman upsets neighbours with boating channel plan

A WOMAN from Shiplake has upset her neighbours with plans for a new navigation channel for boats on the Thames.

Sarah Louise Langton, of Lashbrook Road, says a sharp bend on the stretch of water between the boathouses in Lashbrook Creek and the river makes it difficult to navigate.

She has applied to South Oxfordshire District Council to create a new “direct route” between the two which she claims would be safer to use.

But 17 neighbours have formally objected, saying the channel would create an “island” in the river and would infringe the rights of way attached to their homes.

It is estimated that about 400 cubic metres of material would need to be excavated to create the channel, although the navigation lines would not be visible.
