Skate park on a roll

WORK on Sonning Common’s new £100,000 skate park could start within weeks.

Members of the village’s skate park working party say they are confident that construction will begin in the autumn despite still being £15,000 short of the total funding.

Douglas Kedge, chairman of Sonning Common Parish Council, said: “There was an attempt to start collecting money for a skate park many years ago and it fell through.

“Now, under the leadership of the working party, with support from the parish council, it is finally going to happen.” Most of the money raised so far has come from two sources — Lafarge Tarmac, which donated £60,000 and South Oxfordshire District Council, which approved a grant of £15,000.

The facility will be built in the south-east corner of Bishopswood Sports Ground and will measure 45m by 28m.
