Walkway repairs delayed by wrangle

DAMAGED kerbstones on a walkway to a Henley school have still not been repaired — more than a year after they were first reported.

The narrow road between Greys Road and Greys Hill is used by children and parents walking to and from Sacred Heart School and Pre-School.

Oxfordshire County Council says the road is unadopted and it is not prepared to pay the estimated £20,000 bill needed to replace the damaged kerbstones and bring it up to an adoptable standard.

Louise Dodd, the primary school’s traffic representative, told a meeting of Henley Town Council’s traffic advisory committee that the county council should carry out the repairs.

She said: “The council did the work in the first place a few years ago and it is down to its poor workmanship that the road is in the state it is in.”
