A BID to change the right of way for drivers at a Henley junction has failed.
Currently, drivers going along Thames Side from Henley Bridge have to give way at the junction with Friday Street.
It was suggested at a meeting of the town council’s traffic advisory committee that the priority is swapped round.
But Oxfordshire County Council area steward Keith Stenning said: “We are not very supportive of changing the priority there. The whole junction would need to be remodelled and funding is always an issue for us at the county council.”
Committee vice-chairman Elizabeth Hodgkin said something was needed to warn visiting drivers. “People who aren’t local, they just whizz across,” she said. “There have been a number of near-misses there.”
