School granted permission for floodlit artificial pitch

A FLOODLIT artificial sports pitch is to be installed at Langtree School in Woodcote.

South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee has approved the £200,000 scheme despite claims by nearby residents that they would be disturbed by light and noise from the site in the evenings and at weekends.

The 60m by 40m pitch will be built on land behind the academy school in Reading Road and will be used for hockey, netball, five-a-side football and tag rugby.

It will also be used by the primary schools in Woodcote, Goring, Whitchurch, Stoke Row, Checkendon, Nettlebed and South Stoke while youth groups, sports teams and businesses will be able to hire it.

The pitch will be able to be used from 9am to 8.30pm during the week, from 9am to 6pm on Saturdays and from 9am to 5pm on Sundays.Floodlights on six 10m high columns will be on an automatic timer so they cannot be used outside these hours and a 3m high earth mound will be built between the pitch and the gardens in Baldons Close about 40m away in order to absorb noise.
