Boost for store plan

HIGHWAYS bosses have not raised any concerns about Tesco’s plans for an Express store in Goring.

The supermarket chain wants to open the shop at the former Queen’s Arms pub in Reading Road and has submitted a planning application to South Oxfordshire District Council.

Opponents say the site is too small for delivery lorries and poses a road safety hazard. They also claim that surrounding pavements are too narrow and shoppers would be forced to step into the road.

Earlier this year, the parish council objected on grounds of highway safety.

Tesco has proposed a number of safety measures, including two uncontrolled pedestrian crossings and a raised kerb along Reading Road.
