Keeping our sweepings

THOUSANDS of pounds could be saved with plans for a new processing plant at a landfill site in Ewelme.

Grundon Waste Management has applied for planning permission for a road sweepings recycling plant.

Road sweepings used to be composted with green waste and used on farmland.

However, new regulations were brought in by the Environment Agency in May last year which stopped this practice because of the potential toxic risk from the metal content in the compost.

Since then, Oxfordshire’s road sweepings have been taken to a processing facility plant in Rugby, at a cost of more than £100,000 a year.
