Makeover for lift

THE lift at Henley town hall is set to be refurbished as it has become unreliable.

Members of the council’s town and community committee have recommended budgeting £18,000 for the work.

The lift is used mainly for transporting catering and other heavy equipment and to provide disabled access.

It was installed in the Sixties and its CPU, or “brain”, has not been upgraded for 18 years.

In a report to the committee, accountant Liz Jones said: “Since 1996 there has been a number of new health and safety measures that need addressing at the same time for the lift system to be legally compliant.”
