Council chief accused of preventing traffic wardens

A COUNCIL chief has been accused of blocking a bid to introduce parking wardens in Henley.

Town councillors want to decriminalise illegal parking but claim that David Buckle, chief executive of South Oxfordshire District Council, is against the idea.

Mr Buckle has written to town clerk Mike Kennedy saying larger villages in the district should be consulted before a decision can be made.

Thame, Didcot and Wallingford town councils have all indicated their support for wardens.

Councillor Dieter Hinke said he suspected the scheme was being delayed deliberately.
