Council to cut costs

SOUTH Oxfordshire District Council is to receive a share of £125,000 towards establishing a system of sharing back office costs with Vale of White Horse, Hart, Havant and Mendip councils.

The grant, announced by local government minister Kris Hopkins, is one of 33 made from the Government’s Transformation Challenge fund.

The councils will reduce costs through procurement, providing economies of scale, and better contract management through a shared team.

This will save South Oxfordshire District Council an estimated £5 million over 10 years and the Government says will provide a better service to residents.
