PLANS to redesign a shop front in Henley have been criticised by town councillors.
CAU Restaurants, which has taken over the former La Bodega restaurant in Hart Street, wants to have large windows and a covered canopy and a fascia sign and projecting sign.
The shop front, which is set back from the road, would be brought forward to be in line with the other shops.
Henley Town Council’s planning committee voted to recommend that the company’s planning application is refused on the grounds that the new design would be detrimental to the street scene.
Mayor Martin Akehurst said he agreed with the chairman of the Henley Society that the new design was “crude and oppressive”.
