Council cautious over new triathlon

PLANS for a new three-day triathlon in Henley are to be scrutinised by the town council.

It has agreed to set up a working group to meet organiser Jeremy Laming before deciding whether he can use council land.

Mr Laming, the co-founder of the Henley Swim, wants to hold a “multi-sport weekend” called the Henley Highwayman over the August bank holiday weekend next year.

Up to 600 competitors would take part in timed swimming, cycling and running races over three days.

Mr Laming wants to use Mill Meadows, which the council owns, as a base and to start the cycle race in Henley town centre.
