Brakspear loses bid to build on old pub garden

BRAKSPEAR has failed in a renewed bid to build a house next to one of its former pubs.

A planning inspector has upheld South Oxfordshire District Council’s decision to refuse the scheme at the Sun Inn in Whitchurch Hill.

The Henley pub company wanted to build a five- bedroom detached home on neighbouring land that used to be the Sun’s beer garden.

Brakspear sold the hostelry to businessman Richard Hazell last year but kept the plot to the west of the site with a view to developing it.

The firm submitted a planning application to the district council about a year ago.
