DRIVERS may be able to park in Henley free of charge on Tuesday afternoons in the run-up to Christmas.
South Oxfordshire District Council has offered a half-day of free parking in its car parks in each week of December.
The annual tradition of free parking is designed to encourage more people to shop locally for their Christmas presents.
Members of the Henley Town Council’s town and community committee discussed the offer this week and decided against offering free parking on a Saturday morning, which would have provided a full day as there is no charge after 2pm, and will request Tuesday afternoons instead.
Mayor Martin Akehurst said: “You would be doing it at a time when the car parks are full anyway and you are not bringing in shoppers to the town.
