Residents split over church’s plans to redevelop hall site

A CHURCH’S plan to demolish its hall and build two new houses has divided the people of Watlington, says a parish councillor.

Robert Barber made the comment when Watlington Parish Council’s planning committee met on Tuesday to consider the planning application submitted by St Leonard’s Church.

The hall, which is out of use because the roof is in a dangerous condition, would be knocked down and replaced by a five-bedroom house and a new rectory for the church in Pyrton Lane.

The house and the existing rectory in Hill Road on the other side of the town would be sold to pay for a £150,000 extension to the church.

About 25 residents attended the meeting.
