Angie Paterson becomes deputy leader of SODC

WATLINGTON councillor Angie Paterson has been made deputy leader of South Oxfordshire District Council.

She has taken up the role following the election of new leader John Cotton in place of Ann Ducker, from Goring, who died last month after a short illness.

Councillor Cotton had already been made leader of the ruling Conservative group.

Councillor Paterson, cabinet member for planning policy and customer services, said: “John Cotton will make an excellent leader and it’ll be good to work with him and help move things forward.

“Mine is very much a supportive role but John has made it quite clear that he wants me to be alongside him and help him with his responsibilities as leader.

“A new leader has fresh ideas and there’s always an element of excitement about that despite the sadness about the circumstances in which the position has arisen.”

Anna Badcock, Watlington’s other representative on the council, stood against Cllr Cotton for the Conservative group leadership in a secret ballot.
