Protest at withdrawal of village bus service

A BUS service that was withdrawn from Goring without notice should be restored, say parish councillors.

Thames Travel’s 133, which ran from Reading to Wallingford via the village, was axed unexpectedly last month. Because the service was not subsidised by Oxfordshire County Council, no public consultation was held.

The company also scrapped its subsidised 142 service from Reading to Checkendon via Whitchurch and Woodcote.

It says it had to do this after West Berkshire Council withdrew its subsidy and Oxfordshire County Council said it could not afford to fund the whole route.

The 133 and 142 have been combined into a new 143 service from Reading to Whitchurch which misses out Goring.
