Church hall plan ‘not sympathetic enough’

A CHURCH is being urged to rethink its plan to redevelop the site of its hall in Watlington.

The call came from the parish council in response to an application by St Leonard’s Church to demolish its hall, which is out of use because the roof is in a dangerous condition.

The hall in Pyrton Lane would be replaced by a five-bedroom house and a new rectory for the church.

The new house and the existing rectory in Hill Road on the other side of the town would be sold to pay for a £150,000 extension to the church.

Watlington Parish Council’s planning committee voted against the plan but said it was not against the principle of developing the site.
