Roll up for Mayor’s pancake race

RESIDENTS are being urged to take part in the Mayor of Henley’s fourth annual pancake race.

RESIDENTS are being urged to take part in the Mayor of Henley’s fourth annual pancake race.

Teams of four are eligible to take part in the charity event in Market Place on February 9.

The races will be run on a knock-out basis and there will be categories for under 12s, 12 to 18, over-18s and over-60s.

Contestants must bring their own frying pans, no bigger than 9in in diameter. Pancakes, which will be provided, must be flipped at least four times during each of the four 50m laps.

Children must be supervised by an adult.

Unusual hats can be worn and there will be a competition for the best one.

The Mayor said: “Come and have a bit of fun on a Saturday morning in the town centre and raise money for three local charities.

“Last year’s event was highly competitive and the Sue Ryder team, who have won over the past few years, need some good challengers.

“It will be great to see you all there and new for this year we have an over-60s category so I have no excuse!”

The races will begin at 11am and members of Henley’s two Rotary clubs will act as marshals.

The charities that will benefit are the Henley Youth Centre, the Henley Over-60s Club and Camp Mohawk in Wargrave. Entry costs £5 per person. Teams can register using the form published here or at the town hall in advance or on the day from 10.30am.
