Orchard safety gate plan

A PEDESTRIAN gate could be installed at Carlings Orchard in Peppard.

A PEDESTRIAN gate could be installed at Carlings Orchard in Peppard.

It will be used to fill a gap in the hedge created by walkers entering the orchard from Wyfold Lane.

Parish councillor Leeanne Flett suggested the gate because she was concerned that children playing in the orchard could run through the gap into the street.

The parish council has been given quotes of £300 and £750 for the supply and installation of the gate, while Sonning Common Green Gym has offered to carry out the work free if the council buys the materials.

Councillor Clive Mills said: “The Green Gym puts up gates all the time and they would love to do it. It is unlikely to cost much.”

The council has applied for a grant from Oxfordshire County Council’s locality fund.

Councillor Carol Viney, who represents the village on the county council, said she would be “very pleased” to endorse the application.
