Bubbly on offer to pancake winners

CELEBRITY chef Antony Worrall Thompson is offering a prize to winners of the Mayor of Henley’s fourth annual pancake race

CELEBRITY chef Antony Worrall Thompson is offering a prize to winners of the Mayor of Henley’s fourth annual pancake race, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday).

He is offering a glass of champagne to the winners of the over-18s category and a free ice-cream and a drink for under-18s at the Greyhound, his pub-restaurant in Rotherfield Peppard.

Teams of four are eligible to take part in the charity event, which begins at 11am in Market Place. The races will be run on a knock-out basis and there will be categories for under 12s, 12 to 18, over-18s and over-60s.

Contestants must bring their own frying pans, no bigger than 9in in diameter. Pancakes, which will be provided, must be flipped at least four times during each of the four 50m laps. Children must be supervised by an adult. Unusual hats can be worn and there will be a competition for the best one.

The charities that will benefit are the Henley Youth Centre, the Henley Over-60s Club and Camp Mohawk in Wargrave. Entry costs £5 per person. Teams can register at the town hall in advance or on the day from 10.30am.
