SIR John Madejski may well be red-faced on Red Nose Day. The chairman of Reading Football Club has accepted a dare to sing a solo with Henley Rock Choir in the middle of town in aid of the charity.
He will be joined in his efforts by Henley mayor, Councillor Elizabeth Hodgkin, in order to raise money for Comic Relief.
Choir leader Lucy Hewes said: “This year, the theme of Red Nose Day is ‘do something funny for money’, such as ‘entertain’ and ‘dare’.
“We thought it would be a great idea to dare Sir John and Councillor Hodgkin to sing a solo with us — and we’re over the moon that they said yes.
“We’re hoping our fun event will attract lots of local people and inspire them to donate money to Red Nose Day.”
This is not the first time Sir John, a well-known patron of the arts, has dabbled in the music business. Two years ago he was a judge on the panel of the Has Reading Got Talent? competition.
He and Cllr Hodgkin will join the 100-strong choir in Market Place from 8.30pm next Thursday. March 14. A collection will be carried out after the performance.
