THE Mayor of Henley sang in a public concert which raised £567.77 for Comic Relief.

Councillor Elizabeth Hodgkin joined in the Henley Rock Choir's charity show at the d:two centre in Market Place last night (Thursday, March 14).

She sang Heather Small's 2000 single Proud while the choir sang backing vocals and danced and clapped.

Sir John Madejski, the chairman of Reading Football Club, opened the event by singing Labi Siffre's Something Inside So Strong.

Both agreed to take part after the group invited them.

Choir leader Lucy Hewes, who conducted on the night, said: "It was good for them to step out of their comfort zones - it was actually a proper dare for them."

"I could tell that they were a bit nervous at first but we practised quite a bit beforehand and by the end they were enjoying it."
