OXFORDSHIRE County Council has been rated the fourth best council in England and Wales for managing its carbon footprint and reducing energy consumption.

A league table featuring 2,098 public and private sector organisations ranked the authority in 14th place overall for energy performance during 2011/12.

The council’s annual carbon emissions decreased by 15 per cent, saving £257,000 in carbon tax.
