£100,000 skate park designer chosen

THE designer of the new £100,000 skate park in Sonning Common has been chosen.

THE designer of the new £100,000 skate park in Sonning Common has been chosen.

1Skateparks was selected from three bidders who made presentations in the village hall in February.

More than 60 people attended the event, including youngsters who will be able to use skateboards, BMXs, rollerblades and scooters at the new park.

They met representatives from each company and provided feedback on the proposed designs before the project working party chose the successful bidder.

Carole Lewis, who chairs the working party, said: “With a very competitive price, 1Skateparks offer value for money.”

Parish councillors voted unanimously to accept the recommendation.

Funding options will now be explored. One could be to seek a grant from South Oxfordshire District Council and members of the working party have already attended a workshop on how to submit an application.

The design must be approved by the district council before fund-raising can begin.

* Dexter Hampton, five, of Grove Road, won an Amazon voucher in the prize draw that followed the presentations.
