Recycling award bid

SOUTH Oxfordshire District Council has been shortlisted for a national recycling award.

SOUTH Oxfordshire District Council has been shortlisted for a national recycling award.

It is the second best local authority in the country for recycling with a rate of 67.92 per cent after neighbouring Vale of White Horse District Council (68.71 per cent), which has also been nominated for the local authority team of the year award.

The councils have a joint waste service operated by Biffa.

When the waste and recycling service was introduced in South Oxfordshire four years ago, the recycling rate was 36 per cent.

The award winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on July 3.
