School speed limit signs

SIGNS have been installed outside Shiplake Primary School to encourage drivers to reduce their speed.

SIGNS have been installed outside Shiplake Primary School to encourage drivers to reduce their speed.

Three “wig-wag” flashing yellow lights and 20mph speed limit signs have been put up in Memorial Avenue, Plough Lane and Shiplake Row. The limit is advisory, not enforceable.

The signs, which cost £1,000 each, have been paid for by Oxfordshire County Council after a request from the school’s governors. Councillor Peter Skolar, who lives in the village, agreed to use his area stewards fund.

Michelle Harris, the school’s bursar, said the school was delighted with the signs. “It is hoped they will act as a reminder to road users that they need to be extra careful on the roads around our school at opening and closing times,” she said.
