Two new bus stops and others to move

TWO new bus stops could be installed on Reading Road in Henley.

TWO new bus stops could be installed on Reading Road in Henley.

One would be put near the junction with Quebec Road and the other opposite the Jet garage as part of £25,000 worth of improvements suggested by Oxfordshire County Council’s public transport development team.

Residents and businesses were sent letters last week inviting them to give their comments or objections within the 28-day consultation period.

Other changes include the relocation of the bus stop opposite Singers Lane to the north end of the Upton Close access.

The stop opposite Noble Road will be moved 10m south to opposite the Noble Road access and the bus stop adjacent to Niagara Road will be moved 15m south, closer to the Niagara Road junction.

The bus shelter opposite Newton Gardens will be replaced with a larger shelter and new bus shelters will be installed opposite Waterman’s Road, opposite Newtown Road and adjacent to St Mark’s Road, opposite Jewson.

David Nimmo Smith, county councillor for Henley, said: “We want to make life easier for the people who use the buses. There’s nothing worse than standing in the rain, waiting for a bus when there is no bus stop, so we are giving people a bit of shelter and a bit of comfort which, in the long term, should encourage more people to use the buses.”
