Couple object to dentist’s sign plan

A DENTIST has submitted plans for an illuminated sign in Wargrave High Street.

A DENTIST has submitted plans for an illuminated sign in Wargrave High Street.

Dr Ranju Khurana, who will open Wargrave Dental Clinic next month, wants to have a dark blue sign with white lettering measuring 80cm by 64cm.

Near-neighbours Joy and Ian Saunders have written to Wokingham Borough Council to object.

The couple said: “The sign is going to be sited directly opposite our bedroom window and will be visible in our lounge.

“We are concerned that when it is illuminated, the light emitted will be seen within both rooms in our property and will cause us discomfort and inconvenience during the evening/night.

“The positioning of an illuminated sign directly opposite our bedroom and lounge windows will not only make our house more difficult to sell but it will also devalue it.

“The property at 68a High Street is within a conservation area. The illumination of this property will erode the character of the high street.”

The couple say that an illuminating sign is not necessary, adding: “Unlike the public houses in the high street which rely on night-time customers and passing trade, the proposed dentist surgery will only be open during daytime hours.”

The deadline for comments is Wednesday.
