£400 gate installed to protect children

A NEW gate has been installed at Carlings Orchard in Peppard.

A NEW gate has been installed at Carlings Orchard in Peppard.

It was put in to protect children who play in the orchard as there was previously an opening directly on to Wyfold Lane.

The £400 gate was paid for by Oxfordshire County Council and installed by members of Sonning Common Green Gym, volunteers who undertake maintenance work in the countryside.

Parish councillor Leeanne Flett thanked Carol Viney, who was county councillor for Sonning Common before stepping down earlier this month, for securing the funding.

She said: ‘‘It will mean that small children can play in Carlings Orchard without their parents worrying that they could run out of the gap in the hedge into Wyfold Lane.’’
