The site, behind Butlers Orchard, will include a bird’s nest swing, zip wire, climbing frame, wide slide with log steps and a tunnel, log swing, cockerel four-way and a dual-axis roundabout.
There will also be a grass area for ball games and a goal post, picnic table and jumbo benches around a tree.
The work will be carried out by Wicksteed Playscapes and is being funded by grants from Oxfordshire County Council, South Oxfordshire District Council, the Chilterns LEADER Fund, Kidmore End and Sonning Common Parochial Church Council, Lord Philimore’s Charitable Trust and the Springwater Charity in Sonning Common.
The equipment was chosen following a play event hosted by Kidmore End Parish Council for 18 children and their parents.
They were asked to plan their ideal play area within the budget and came up with eight different designs.
Councillor Caroline Aldridge said families were keen to keep an area of grass for ball games.
She said: “It was important to them as having this area would ensure that the current atmosphere in the play area is not lost when the new equipment is in place.
“Villagers, children and young people have been given the opportunity to look at the plan, make comments and move equipment around.”
Work is expected to start this month and be completed in time for the summer holidays. For more information, email Cllr Aldridge at caroline_ email@example.com
