£15,000 pavilion revamp grant bid

AN application is to be made for a £15,000 grant to refurbish Peppard sports pavilion.

AN application is to be made for a £15,000 grant to refurbish Peppard sports pavilion.

The parish council’s sports field and pavilion management committee will apply to South Oxfordshire District Council’s community investment fund.

The money would be used to revamp the kitchen, toilets and heating system.

Councillors had discussed asking for funding for a new play area on the common but Councillor Terry Ryan said he wanted to wait for permission from the Nettlebed and District Conservators, who owns the land, before considering fund-raising.

He said the council would not be able to apply for two grants from the community investment fund within two years.

Cllr Ryan said: “If we want to apply for a grant for the pavilion then we won’t be able to apply for a grant for the playground but I can’t see us having everything in place by the end of the year.

“The play area is going to be a longer term project anyway so why don’t we apply for a grant for the pavilion first then wait two years?”

Councillor Fiona Berry said the play area project had originally been a five-year plan so there was no need to rush.

Cllr Ryan said there would be more chance of securing a grant if the council could demonstrate how the facilities would be widely used.

He added: “If you are covering special needs and different age or multicultural groups, you are more likely to get a grant.”
