THE Mayor of Henley was guest of honour when one of the town?s care homes held an open day

THE Mayor of Henley was guest of honour when one of the town?s care homes held an open day.

Stefan Gawrysiak chatted with residents before opening a new Fifties-themed lounge at Chilterns End in Greys Road.

The 42 pensioners enjoyed tea and cakes, listened to old pop records and watched balloon modelling demonstrations by Pinky?s Parties, of High Wycombe.

Three sixth-form students from The Henley College visited for an hour to chat with them.

The new lounge is decorated with original Fifties furniture and objects such as a dial telephone and a typewriter. It took six months to find all the items in charity shops and on online auction sites.

Tracy Booth, the home?s activities organiser, said: ?The residents really enjoyed meeting the Mayor and having people to talk to all morning.?

The event was held as part of National Care Home Open Day on Friday.
