A NEW care home with 70 bedrooms could be built in Hare Hatch.

Castleoak has applied to Wokingham Borough Council for permission to develop a high quality 70-bed care home with nursing at the former Mabey HQ, Floral Mile, Bath Road.

The care home will be run by Barchester Healthcare and address a local need for specialist nursing and dementia care. It will also create 42 full-time and 53 part-time jobs in a wide variety of roles

The application says: “The proposed scheme has evolved to take full account of its setting and visual impact and the high quality of the local area.

“The home will provide an important amenity for the local community, generating new job opportunities and replacing the existing commercial operation with a use more compatible with the site’s green belt location.”
