Community cash bids

FUNDING is to be sought by Henley Town Council for a number of projects.

FUNDING is to be sought by Henley Town Council for a number of projects.

These could include refurbishing toilets and the toddler play area in Mill Meadows, installing solar panels on the town hall, recreational improvements and safety measures.

All have been included in this year’s budget and the town council will seek funding from South Oxfordshire District Council’s community investment fund, which provides grants of up to £100,000.

At a meeting of the town council’s finance strategy and management committee, Councillor Will Hamilton warned not to “put the cart before the horse” by applying for grants before the council had agreed to go ahead with a project.

Committee chairman Councillor Ian Reissmann said evidence of funding availability was necessary for the council to make decisions on projects but if these fell through the funding would not be used.

Mayor Stefan Gawrysiak said: “If there’s a deadline coming up we should apply for it but spending it is absolutely to the approval of the full council.”
