Skate park cash help

THE new skate park in Sonning Common could be partly funded by a neighbouring parish.

THE new skate park in Sonning Common could be partly funded by a neighbouring parish.

Peppard Parish Council has agreed to provide £500 from its precept next year because it believes youngsters from its parish will use the facility, which is to be built in Bishopswood Sports Ground.

Councillor Hadley Cooper said he was concerned about funding something outside the parish when there were organisations in Peppard that needed support.

He said: “The bowls club is in some sort of financial difficulties. If we were going to give £500 I would rather it went to something like that.”

Councillor Fiona Berry said: “We should contribute but it seems a lot of money when we have other things to contribute to, such as the war memorial hall.”

Councillor Tony Cotton said the council had a charity policy that allows it to give money to causes either in the parish or those that are likely to be used by parishioners.

“I think that covers the skate park,” he said. “We would be in for criticism if we don’t support it.”
