A FIRM of Henley solicitors faces opposition to plans to replace a brass plaque with a hanging sign.

A FIRM of Henley solicitors faces opposition to plans to replace a brass plaque with a hanging sign.

Mercers, in New Street, has applied for permission for the 70cm x 50cm sign and a new stainless steel plate.

Henley Town Council’s planning committee said the plaque should be replaced in kind because the building is Grade II listed.

Councillor Sam Evans said the company had followed guidelines but committee chairman Dieter Hinke said the plans didn’t maintain the integrity of the building.

He used his casting vote to recommend that the application is refused by South Oxfordshire District Council.
