A LOW emissions zone strategy is to be produced by South Oxfordshire District Council.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has approved a grant towards the cost of the plan, which is designed to reduce pollutant levels.

According to the most recent air quality statistics, Duke Street in Henley has the highest nitrogen dioxide levels in the district.

Henley town councillor Joan Bland, who is also a member of the district council, said: “It is really good news because Defra has committed to help us with our problems. We need to find a solution.”

Malcolm Dodds, chairman of the Henley in Transition group, said: “We are absolutely delighted and will be very keen to help in any way we can.”
