DRIVERS will be able park free in Henley and Goring in the run-up to Christmas.

South Oxfordshire District Council has scrapped the charges at its car parks in the towns on Saturdays, December 7, 14 and 21.

The annual tradition of free parking is designed to encourage more people to shop locally for their Christmas presents.

Judith Nimmo-Smith, cabinet member for economic development and parking, who lives in Henley, said: “Hopefully, residents will respond by supporting their local traders and making the most of the wonderful choice of potential presents.”
