Messy hedge warning

A RESIDENT of Peppard who has failed to control an overgrown hedge could face legal action.

A RESIDENT of Peppard who has failed to control an overgrown hedge could face legal action.

The hedge, which is on a corner in Gallowstree Road opposite the Greyhound pub, is said to hamper drivers’ view as they go round the corner because it sticks out into the road.

Speaking during the public part of a parish council meeting, Adrian Mettem said drivers coming in opposite directions were forced to almost make contact with their vehicles. He said: “The hedge hasn’t been cut for years and there are a lot of dead branches coming out. The growth has been gradual over years but to me it’s on the public verge.”

Parish clerk Linda Collison said she had reported the matter to Oxfordshire County Council “more times than I can imagine”, adding: “It’s now with their legal department.”

Meanwhile, a new letter is to be sent to residents with overgrown hedges that affect paths and roads. It follows complaints that a previous letter was “heavy-handed”.
