Difficult mixture

BUSINESSES and residents sharing the same street often don’t mix, according to a town councillor.

Lorraine Hillier was speaking at a meeting of Henley Town Council’s planning committee about plans to turn an office in Friday Street into a house.

Trisha Crocker’s propsal qualifies under permitted development laws, which means it doesn’t need planning permission.

Councillor Hillier, who owns the Hot Gossip coffee house opposite the site, said that in streets with both houses and businesses there were often complaints from residents about noise.

She said: “Friday Street used to be all commercial and I think that’s a concern for the future.

“On the one hand we want to welcome new homes in the area but there’s this concern that they don’t always sit comfortably with businesses.”
