Ready for cold snap

ABOUT 130 grit bins have been installed across Oxfordshire by the county council to help make the roads and pavements

ABOUT 130 grit bins have been installed across Oxfordshire by the county council to help make the roads and pavements safer this winter.

The county council fills the bins, which have been paid for by the town and parish councils, and councils can order another one-tonne bag free.

Leader Ian Hudspeth said: “The council salts 43 per cent of its roads when freezing temperatures strike but there is a great desire for people locally to be able to do more to help themselves. It’s really a win-win arrangement for everyone.”
